TOUCH SCULPTURE

TOUCH SCULPTURE

During the years I was working with the blind I liked to explore ways of using clay as a means of expressing their gift for crafts and creative arts through touch-based perception. I would begin by focusing on the diverse types of tactility and specific creative symbolism of the artistically gifted individuals amongst the blind. An important finding for me was also the difference in the tactility of artists who were blind since birth and those who went blind at some point in their life. I realized that one of the opportunities in creative arts for them was the art of touch. The art works of young blind artists were so specific and extraordinary that led to many projects, both for educational and exposition purposes. The collection of Touch sculpture is one of such projects. Formation of a permanent exposition allows the public, both amateurs and professionals, not only to acquaint themselves with the achievements of this new art discipline but also to open new possibilities of expression for the blind.
