ATM FOR PEOPLE WITH MENTAL HANDICAP

COMPREHENSION AND PATIENCE
An understanding of the different teaching procedures is highly important. ATM procedures are adjusted to the specific needs of the individual. Knowledge of the simple handicraft procedures of ATM provides the mentally handicapped with confidence to transform their artistic messages into clay. Without knowledge of the handicraft, these people would never be able to model such works. Patient repetition of the procedures according to the student’s intellectual ability ensures that they master the technique.

ENABLEMENT
Having completed the course, even people with mental handicap are able to use their knowledge for a truly independent artistic expression. It should be noted that students are led to do more than merely copy the work of their tutor which could result in further dependence. Merely copying wastes the extraordinary creative inventiveness that these people usually have.

IMPROVEMENT OF MANUAL ABILITIES
Exercising hand coordination, especially in cases of hands with impaired mobility, is another logical advantage of manual clay modelling. Work with clay is physically demanding. It diminishes aggressiveness and releases spasms.
